What is Health Wit?

The Health Wit Nutrition initiative was launched after identifying an unmet need in providing access to healthy nutrition for families as they progress through their cancer journey.

It’s hard enough dealing with a cancer diagnosis, let alone reading labels to ensure the patient and family avoids the long-term detrimental mental and physical side effects of a poor diet. Health Wit helps reduce that stress for families.

Why Health Wit?

During and after treatment, nutrition plays a critical role in supporting the health and well-being of both childhood cancer survivors and caregivers. Proper nutrition can help manage treatment-related side effects, support healing and recovery, and promote a long, healthy cancer-free life, and yet a 2021 study indicated that 94% of patients were not consuming an adequate intake of vegetables (1). In addition, 61% of parents report poor diet and nutrition during their child’s cancer treatment (2).

Despite this, no standardized nutrition program exists. ALL family members need proper nutrition during this busy time!. Health Wit attempts to fill that gap by supporting studies, creating resources, and providing healthy, on-the-go snack and meal replacement options for families as they progress through their cancer journey.

How does it work?

Along with supporting the development of nutrition standards, we meet families everywhere in their cancer journey:

In-Hospital Grab-n-Go: As a nutrition partner with Ronald McDonald House, we supply the oncology floor at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with healthy snack and meal replacement options for the whole family. These products are carefully chosen with the oversight of our licensed dietician, and provided with educational resources with the products.

At Home Deliveries: Families receive a Health Wit Box delivered monthly to their door. These boxes are free to the family and chock full of healthy snack and meal replacement options for the whole family. Each box includes resources and educational material to promote sustainable habits and ensure that each family is getting all the support that is available to them.
